There are four types of Genders.

1.Masculine Gender.

2.Feminine Gender.

3.Common Gender.

4.Neuter Gender.

1.Masculine Gender. 

                                        Nouns or names of males denote the Masculine Gender.

Examples-:boy,man,ox,brother,Rahul.


2.Feminine Gender. 

                                           Nouns or names of females are of the Feminine Gender.

Examples-:sister,girls,woman,cow,Sheela.


3.Common Gender. 

                                      Nouns or names of either males or females are of the common gender.

Examples-:parents,children,teacher,neighbour,person.


4.Neuter Gender. 

                                       Nouns or things without life are of the Neuter Gender.

Examples-:school,day,class,book,pen.


                             Some nouns have entirely different words for the feminine gender.

Examples-:

Boy-Girl.

Uncle-Aunt.

Nephew-Niece.

Lord-Lady.

Sir-Madam.

Monk-Nun

Dog-Bitch.


Ways of forming the feminine nouns


(i)Add "-ess" at the end of the masculine to form the feminine.

Examples-:

Host-Hostess

Lion-Lioness.

Heir-Heiress.

                                In some cases, there is a slight change in the masculine form before we add -ess.

Actor-Actress.

Master-Mistress.


                                   Some nouns add a syllable to the masculine to form the feminine.

Example-:     

Hero-Heroine.

Sultan-Sultana.


                                    Some nouns that are made up of two words, then change one of the two words to form masculine and feminine genders.

Examples-:

Grand father-Grand mother.

Land lord-Land lady.

Man servant-Maid servant.

He goat-She goat.

Milk man-Milk maid. 

Peacock-Pea hen.
