There are three types of Degrees of Comparison.
They are-:
Positive-Comparative -Superlative.
(Examples are given as follows).
Kind-Kinder-Kindest.
Strong-Stronger-Strongest.
Tall-Taller-Tallest.
Sweet-Sweeter-Sweetest.
Warm-Warmer-Warmest.
Great-Greater-Greatest.
Small-Smaller-Smallest.
Young-Younger-Youngest.
Bold-Bolder-Boldest.
When the positive ends in "e" only "r" and "st" are added to form Comparative and Superlative degrees respectively.
Able-Abler-Ablest.
Brave-Braver-Bravest.
Fine-Finer-Finest.
Large-Larger-Largest.
Noble-Nobler-Noblest.
White-Whiter-Whitest.
Wise-Wiser-Wisest.
When the Positive ends in "y" with a consonant sound before it, the "y" is changed into "i" before "er" and "est" are added.
Easy-Easier-Easiest.
Happy-Happier-Happiest.
Heavy-Heavier-Heaviest.
Healthy-Healthier-Healthiest.
Wealthy-Wealthier-Wealthiest.
Pretty-Prettier-Prettiest.
When the positive is a word of one syllable and ends in a single consonant, the consonant is doubled before "er" and "est" are added. In such cases, the vowel before the Consonant must be a short one. If the vowel is long, only "er" and "est" will be added.
Big-Bigger-Biggest.
Hot-Hotter-Hottest.
Fat-Fatter-Fattest.
Sad-Sadder-Saddest.
Thin-Thinner-Thinnest.
Lean-Leaner-Leanest.
Great-Greater-Greatest.
Adjectives of more than two syllables and many of those with two from the Comparative by putting "more" and the Superlative by putting "most" before the positive.
Active-More active-Most active.
Beautiful--More beautiful--Most beautiful.
Difficult--More difficult--Most difficult.
Interesting--More interesting--Most interesting.
The Comparative and Superlative degrees of the following adjectives are not formed from the Positive.
Bad-Worse-Worst.
Good-Better-Best.
Little-Less-Least.
